HSBC Golf Roots Centre

Promoting junior golf

Halifax West End Golf Club has been recognised for it work in promoting junior golf and is recognised as a facility which supports and promotes junior golf.

We recognise that young golfers are the next generation of members at Halifax West End Golf Club, and providing an environment in which they can develop their games.

Junior Membership

Juniors golfers can join Halifax West End GC for as little as £40.00 dependant on experience.

Young golfers who join with a handicap, or have a Handicap  of 29 or over will be eligible to play in numerous internal junior competition we hold.

Once they begin to improve and their index decreases  to between 28 & 17 more playing opportunities opens up for them to play. Juniors with a handicap of 16 or under are classed as full junior members and have unrestricted access to all competitions.

For more information please pop into the Pro-Shop and we can discuss the options available.

Junior Competitions

Age is not a restriction
Junior access to competitions is based on ability and not age; as they progress more competitions become available.

Juniors who are members have a wide variety of competitions to play in as the Juniors Section has over 12 competitions, aimed at players of all abilities.

Once they progress into gaining a handicap of less than 36, the main competitions for both Men and Ladies are available for juniors to enter although Club Majors are only available for Juniors with handicaps of 16 or below.

Academy Courses

Tee it forward

To ensure golfers play from a course which matches their ability, we havedeveloped our ‘Academy Courses’. Differentiated by distance, it gives the player new to golf, opportunities to access the course with confidence.

Level 1 (Orange Course) play from the orange tee posts (150 yard markers) and Level 2 (Green Course) play from the Green fairway markers.

Play from these tees is based on the distances that player can hit. Therefore, golfers will be playing a course relative to their own distances and encourage
greater success.

This in turn will make golf more fun and enjoyable. The green course is not just for Junior players and could be used by all members as well as new to golf players.

Junior Coaching

Our Professional offers a variety of coaching opportunites for junior golfers, from weekly group sessions to one-to-one coaching.

Coaching is open to members and non members, for more information please ring 01422 341878 option1, or email professional@halifaxwestend.golf.

Safeguarding

The Junior section has a dedicated organiser, who liaises very closely with the club professional and the Club’s Welfare Officer. All adults who work with juniors have been checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) through England Golf. Safeguarding is a priority for the club, to ensure everyone can learn and play in a safe, positive and purposeful environment. Any concerns a parent may have over the safeguarding of their child should be addressed to the club’s welfare officer (John Stevens)
